[Q] I want to compete in MMA - how long does it take before my first fight?
[A] There are a lot of factors that go into deciding when someone is ready for their first mixed martial arts event. The first and maybe the most important factor is your attendance. If you train once a week it will obviously take longer to get a high level of technique than if you were training 3-4 times a week. Even taking that into account, some people are just more natural than others. The best thing to do is talk with the coaches and together decide on when you are able to compete in either a cage or on the mat.

[Q] What does it mean "gi" and "no-gi" when looking at classes?
[A] The terms "gi" and "no-gi" refer to the uniforms worn in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes. If the class calls for having a gi, then you will need to come to class with a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu uniform. If the class calls for going no-gi, then leave the uniform in your bag and be ready to train in a t-shirt and shorts for the class.
